Vartus is a graphic designer by education who turned to Chinese brush painting as a means of meditation, and inspiration after her sudden diagnosis and subsequent treatments for cancer. A re-occurrence and life saving bone marrow transplant in 2010 has given her a new future and a lesson in the fragility of life.
Vartus has worked for numerous advertising agencies and design studios in the Boston area. Her accomplishments in her field were celebrated with local, regional, and national awards and accolades. At her most recent employer, IBM she was worldwide software brand manager and creative director. Her business career offered many challenges but nothing compared to the battle fighting cancer. After her transplant she participated in a Chinese painting class taught by a former student of Mr. Ma’s, the late Randi Meryl at Facing Cancer Together. And this started a whole new direction for Vartus.
Vartus sits on the board of the Newton Art Association and the Chinese Painting Guild, and is responsible for publicity/communications and design. She exhibits and sells her cards and calendars at numerous craft shows and gift stores. She also teaches elementary students and cancer survivors’ Chinese brush painting with the Newton Community Education and Facing Cancer Together. Vartus is on the mend and continues her creativity with Chinese Brush Painting classes with Mr. Ma.
Vartus paintings will be on display in the Betty Meyer Art Gallery till July 19th. Gallery hours are Monday thru Friday 9am to 3pm.
Please join Vartus for an Art Reception being held on June 25, 2016 from 2pm to 5pm.
