The UPA Community Board cordially invites everyone to come and enjoy a complimentary breakfast in the Parish Hall this Sunday, September 8th, before worship from 9:00am to 9:45am. This is a great opportunity to share your Summer Adventures with new and old friends. Hope to see you there!!!!
LESSON: Luke 14::1,7-14
MESSAGE: “The healing we do on the Sabbath”
I am so excited for Welcome Back Sunday at UPA! I’m looking forward to meeting people who have been away for the summer, to fun and fellowship at the breakfast, and returning to worship in the sanctuary.
This Sunday, we’re going to take a look at a passage in the Gospel of Luke where Jesus instructs his followers about how they should conduct themselves in social gatherings. On the surface this text looks like a “Miss Manners” column, but what Jesus is really suggesting is actually countercultural as he encourages people to break norms by extending a welcome not only to everyone, but explicitly to those who are typically not invited. The Kingdom/Kin-dom/Family of God is all about building bridges. Come join us as we reflect on stories of the beauty, awkwardness, and grace of welcome.
I also wanted to say a heartfelt thankyou to all of those who were part of the BBQ, particularly to Carole for putting it together, and to the Bean’s for hosting. My family were really excited to spend time with all of you. My daughter, Davie, was pretty nervous before we arrived and really didn’t want to go. She was pretty tentative when we first arrived, but eventually ran off to play with the other kids. As I tucked her in for the night she told me, “Today turned into the best day ever!” Thank you all for instilling that feeling in her and for welcoming all of us to UPA!
Blessings and peace,

We will start at a breakfast provided by the community Board. We will then join Pastor Chris in worship and then proceed to go downstairs after the Children’s message where we will have fun and games. It should be a fun day. Youth and Sunday school students are welcome. Invite your friends. Childcare will be available at 8:45am.
