Adult Choir: “This Little Light of Mine” The Text This Week: Jonah 3 Jonah cried out, “Forty days, and this city of Ninevah shall be overthrown. Repent.” And the people of Ninevah believed him, and repented. Everyone, great and small, even the animals, repented. And when God saw this, God’s mind changed and the city was spared.
Weekly Message by Pastor Doug: “Old Turtle Returns”
Moments before U.S. President Donald Trump rose to to address the United Nations Assembly this week, delegates from North Korea exited the auditorium. Watching news coverage of the speech I fantasized about a teacher standing in the assembly, reading slowly from Douglas Wood’s book “Old Turtle.” Old Turtle reminds humans of an ancient truth, buried by arguments and division, that each human is a message of love, cherished by God. This Sunday we will hear that message again, along with two other important messages for our time, delivered by Old Turtle.
The Nine o’Clock Parish Choir
This fall at UPA we will offer a different approach to adult choir rehearsals. Weekly Thursday rehearsal attendance has been low in recent years, and we are hoping that a shift emphasizing Sunday morning rehearsals will be more conducive to regular participation from a larger number of singers.
Rehearsals for the “Nine o’Clock Parish Choir” will be from 9:00 – 9:45amSunday mornings before the 10:00am service. Child care will be provided from 8:45am through the end of the worship service. It will be a “drop-in” choir; anyone is welcome to join us on any Sunday. A rehearsal the last Thursday of each month from 7:30 – 9:00pm will also be held for those who want an opportunity to preview upcoming anthems. Next Choral Preview night will be Thursday, September 28th.
Please join us! Drop in any Sunday. -Allen LeVines
Children and Youth Choirs and Rock Band
This Sunday9 to 9:45am, youth interested in performing with the UPA “Rock Band” are welcome to join the group rehearsing in the music room, upstairs from Parish Hall.
Children and Youth Choirs will alternate rehearsals and performances with the youth rock band. Once a month, Pei will gather young people during Sunday School choir rehearsals. If your children or youth love to sing, or if they would like to learn an instrument like drums, guitar or keyboard, please contact Children’s Choir Director, Pei-Chun Lin email@example.com
