Lesson: Matthew 20:1-16
Message: “Working in the Vineyard”
It was exciting to have our first in-person worship service together last Saturday. I miss the opportunity to just have short conversations and share the little (and sometimes) big things that are happening in our lives. I am hoping and praying that we will find more ways to gather face-to-face as time goes on. I’m excited that we’ll be gathering to share in mission together on our Gleaner’s outing. We’ll be gathering for outdoor socially distanced volunteering this Saturday. See more information in the block below for registration.
This Sunday we’ll start a series on several parables that Jesus taught in the book of Matthew that describe the “Kingdom of Heaven” as being like a vineyard. Sometimes, it feels like we read the parables in the Gospels and their meaning seems obvious and we wonder why people in Jesus’ day are confused. In our parable for Sunday, Jesus gives us a story of workers in a vineyard who are all paid the same regardless of whether they’ve worked all day in the fields or only showed up for an hour at the end of the day. It’s still very much open for debate what Jesus was talking about – and biblical scholars argue over its meaning. Bringing up questions of fairness, labor practices, eternal rewards, mission, and what generosity looks like, it provides a rich place for us to think about our own context for how we are called to act and work in the world.
We’ll explore this together as we gather for our live streamed worship via either Zoom or Facebook Live. I know that there are some who much prefer to be on Zoom because Facebook Live doesn’t work for you for one reason or another. It also provides a way to call in to the service to listen on your phone, for those of you who don’t have good computer access. We’re trying hard to integrate the two services. Thanks for being patient with the technical glitches along the way! For Zoom login information please contact Chris at email@example.com
Grace and peace be with all of you on this journey we’re on together! Blessings,

We are entering the beginning of a new school year. I hope everyone has been well. A Sunday School lesson will be sent out by Thursday to watch and enjoy.
We had our first in-person worship. Simone and Charlotte were both there, it was great to see them. It was also wonderful to have their help with some supplies.
We are getting ready for Pumpkin Patch and our scarecrows. To do this and to stay safe we have a plan. David Walsh will be our coordinator. We have heads made for us by Toni Miller. We have stands from prior years or you can make your own (David can give you instructions). Clothes will be available or you might want to select your own. Fabric Markers will be available if you need them. They have been sanitized by our helpers Simone and Charlotte. Stuffing can be Straw, newspaper or pillow stuffing.
We will get you the dates the supplies will be available for you to take home. We just ask you to complete and return to erect your scarecrow in the Pumpkin patch from October 4th to the 11th.
I am looking forward to seeing your creations.
