Lesson: Exodus 14:19-25, Romans 14:5-9
Message: “Always with us”
This week we begin our program year and it feels really different from where we were last year. The pandemic has changed how we are doing ministry and what it means to be a church. But we are still church! This Sunday in our program year would typically be called “Welcome Back Sunday”. When I arrived at UPA, I was told that this phrase felt strange to some people, because the church doesn’t cease to be over the summer. That sentiment is very true now! The church continues to be a community rather than a building. The church is mission, rather than being a worship service. The church is one, even when it’s separated by distance or time. This is what we celebrate each time we gather to do communion – that we are each part of the body of Christ.
This Sunday, we’ll gather via either Zoom and Facebook Live to “re-gather” ourselves. We’ll celebrate communion together and look to the year ahead. We’ll celebrate communion so grab what you have, some bread, a cracker, a sticky bun or a tortilla, and some juice, or wine, or coffee, or water, as we feast together. You can join via Zoom if you’d like to share in that together or you can be with us on Facebook live. People on the Zoom call will be visible on the screen during our call to worship and communion. Those who are on Zoom will be able to see one another during the service, or focus on the person who is speaking. For Zoom login information email our office at email@example.com.
I’m also excited about our opportunity to gather and share in mission together through the Boston Gleaners! We’ll be gathering for outdoor socially distanced volunteering on Saturday, September 19th. See more information below for registration.
Grace and peace be with all of you and we re-gather in many ways,
Prelude: “Refuge” L. Smith
Meditation: “Freely, Freely” Owens
Postlude: “Voluntary in G” Stanley
I, along with Board of Ed members are contacting each parent of children and youth to discuss our programming for the fall. If you have any questions or concerns, or want to talk, please contact me: Sheryl Ellis firstname.lastname@example.org 603-
Giving at UPASunday School
In the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic, we want to affirm that we are up and running – virtually that is. As you know, our Sunday Worship Services are online at 11:00AM (see the notice in this eBlast issue).
We cannot thank you enough for your generous support and want to encourage you to continue your regular giving. We know that for some these past months have not been easy: physically, emotionally, and financially. Some of you may be finding it difficult to make regular contributions to the church. Rest assured, we will continue the work of the UPA and our outreach and mission programs as best we can. Some of you may be in a position to give a little more, and for that we are very grateful.
As a reminder, there are several ways to send your contributions to the UPA:
- By mailing your check to the UPA (we check the mail twice a week),
- By continuing your automatic transfers from your bank account to our church’s account – to set up automatic transfers contact Janet
- By going to www.newtonchurch.org/donate and entering your donation, or
- By texting UPA (in all caps) to 73256
