LESSON: Jeremiah 31:31-34
MESSAGE: “Written on our Hearts”
This week we wrap up our look at the prophet Jeremiah and the Exile. Jeremiah forecasts what’s next for the people of Israel after they have lost everything in their forced move to Babylon. He proposes a new covenant that God is making with the people, that they will know God and have the law written not in books or tablets, but on their hearts. It mirrors the way that Jeremiah has experienced God’s presence from a young age and it highlights his greatest hope: that the people would move from being focused on either following or breaking the rules and instead have a real connection with the divine. We’ll look at this new covenant and what it means for us today in the context of our faith and time. Is it possible that we have something written on our hearts?
I’m also excited that the Youth Rock Band will be bringing their gifts to worship on Sunday. They’ve been preparing for this as well as for our Pumpkin Festival on October 27th. For those who might want to join in on this group, Pei brings the group together for rehearsals each Sunday morning at 9 am. If you are not a youth, but would like to help support the group, we could use some volunteers. Please let Pei know if you are interested.
Blessings and peace,
Prelude: “Fughette in E-flat” Kolb
Anthem: “Holy, Holy, Holy” Lassius
Meditation: “O Rest in the Lord” Mendelssohn
solo Camille Hathaway, mezzo-soprano
Postlude: “Prelude in C” J. S. Bach
Will be studying The Widow and the Judge. This lesson is about a woman who waits and persists for her justice and we learn that Justice can take a long time.
Bible verse Luke 18:1-8
Will be looking at unanswered prayers. Are prayers really unanswered, or are they answered differently or take longer then we hoped.
Bible Verses: Psalm 116:1-2 Proverbs 3:5-6
Our High School students will have a wonderful opportunity to begin a series “Living the Questions”. We hope your students will join in this class.
