Lesson: Matthew 21:12-17, Psalm 8
Message: “A Temple of Healing”
First, I am so excited for the start of Pumpkin Patch! A huge thank you to all who helped to unload the massive lot and place them so beautifully on the grounds of the church! We have already received a big response of thanks from the community and our neighbors who have come by to purchase them. I am grateful for these connections and know that this will make an impact in the spirits of those around us. One way that you can continue to help is to take a shift selling pumpkins (which will also give you an excuse to connect with our neighbors)! For health reasons, there are several in our congregation that will not be able to participate in this way, and we affirm that choice. This means that there is a bigger need for those of us who are able to participate to do so. You can sign up for a spot here (https://www.signupgenius.com/
Our worship this Sunday will conclude our look at the vineyard parables. We’ll take a look at one of the surrounding texts that didn’t make it into the lectionary. Right in the middle of the vineyard texts, Jesus protests in the temple, disrupting those who are changing money and selling animals for sacrifice. In the Gospel of Matthew, this “cleansing of the temple” looks a little different from the other gospels. Directly following the disruption that he’s created, Jesus heals those who are in need, and children chant and sing “Hosanna!” The temple leadership complain against Jesus, and in response he quotes Psalm 8, where we get our phrase “from the mouths of babes”. Jesus invites us to think about the purpose of worship, of what the temple should be for, and what a faithful relationship with God might look like. Join us as we explore this together. We continue with our worship using both Zoom and Facebook Live. For Zoom log in please contact Chris at firstname.lastname@example.org.
