Jonah was really upset and angry [that God DIDN’T destroy a foreign city].
God responds, “What right do you have being angry? It is my city and these are my people.”
Weekly Message by Pastor Doug: “A Worm-Widened Worldview”
CBS This Morning opens with a 90 second segment it calls “The Eye Opener.” This morning’s segment is available HERE, and it is introduced with this tease, “Your world, in 90 Seconds.” What are we to do with this world revealed to us, a world of catastrophe and threat, thousands of miles away? Studies have shown that daily doses of this content lead to Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder symptoms. yet we can neither ignore despair in Puerto Rico, North Korea or Washington nor can we ignore the reality that “our world”‘ also includes grocery shopping, laundry and more than a few appointments. Can the story of Jonah help us find that sweet spot between aversion and attachment, a place where we avoid disinterest, burn-out and depression?
Drum Set Forum SUNDAY11:30am
The UPA recently purchased a quality, Gretsch drum set. We look forward to hearing the drums in the UPA Rock Band on October 22nd Pumpkin Fest and in future worship services. However we can enjoy an up-close experience with the set THIS SUNDAY following worship in the Centenary Room! Enjoy the thrill of playing the set and hearing what is possible!
SUNDAY OFFERING Supports Disaster Relief
This Sunday tall buckets can be filled with cash or checks (payable to UPA) which will be directed to Church World Service. CWS offers disaster relief in the form of health kits and flood buckets, as well as refugee resettlement aid. Our offering will be matched by the Outreach Committee.
The Nine o’Clock Parish Choir
This fall at UPA we will offer a different approach to adult choir rehearsals. Weekly Thursday rehearsal attendance has been low in recent years, and we are hoping that a shift emphasizing Sunday morning rehearsals will be more conducive to regular participation from a larger number of singers.
Rehearsals for the “Nine o’Clock Parish Choir” will be from 9:00 – 9:45amSunday mornings before the 10:00am service. Child care will be provided from 8:45am through the end of the worship service. It will be a “drop-in” choir; anyone is welcome to join us on any Sunday. A rehearsal the last Thursday of each month from 7:30 – 9:00pm will also be held for those who want an opportunity to preview upcoming anthems. Next Choral Preview night will be Thursday, September 28th.
Please join us! Drop in any Sunday. -Allen LeVines
