Lesson: Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30
Message: “Faith in this generation”
First off, a big thank you to everyone who made it possible for my family and I to take a real vacation this week. I especially want to thank Linda for covering in my absence and for leading worship last week, and also, Jacob for dealing with all of the technical bits of streaming worship. It was great to take some time away and I am coming back feeling refreshed. I hope that each of you are finding time to carve out something special in the midst of this very different summer time.
This week’s Lectionary text is a passage in Matthew where Jesus begins by commenting on being frustrated with the generation that they are living in. Given the number of messages on Facebook that I’ve seen suggesting that we should just skip to 2021, I think we might be able to relate. As we enter a time when we face more challenges from the pandemic, and hostilities ratchet up between people on different ends of the political spectrum, it feels like we need a new perspective. We might learn something from the path that was being offered by Jesus, who was presenting a “light burden” even at the same time that he was calling people to change their whole lives. What are the burdens from today’s generation that we may be called to give up? How might that change where we go from here?

Online Worship Tech Issues
We will start our live streams about 10 minutes prior to the worship start time. During this moment you will hear silence, but see rotating pictures of art that our children and youth have made to share with us. Facebook is clearly having some issues keeping up with the demands of every congregation moving to worship online. Thanks for being patient during this time of sudden transition! Here are some tips if you’re having trouble:
First, try reducing the quality level in Facebook – On the video window highlight over the “resolution” along the bottom right corner of the video player to select a different bandwidth option. This may take a moment to update within your browser.
Next, you can also try using your phone instead. Some people have had more luck using the app than connecting on their computers.
If that doesn’t work, here are some other options:
1. Try a different internet browser (i.e. Chrome, Firefox, etc.) and also close unnecessary tabs on your browser.
2. Try updating your internet browser
3. Try restarting your computer
4. Try restarting your modem or router
5. Try updating your flash player
