Lesson: Psalm 23
Message: “Let’s get specific”
This Sunday we’re going to take a fresh look at Psalm 23. You’re probably familiar with these words, often used at memorial services and in personal devotion, beginning with “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want”. We’re going to look at what this text means for diversity in the church. At first, it might not seem like it has anything to do with diversity – it’s a personal connection, a relationship between God and the speaker. It’s a text of comfort because it portrays a God who is there with us in the most difficult times and shows that we are not alone.
But when we read Psalm 23 while thinking about how this relationship with God works for each individual person who reads it, we begin to see the broadness of God’s relationship with people. Not just universal but personal and specific.
We’ll take a look at some of those specifics on Sunday, and reflect on God’s presence with us.
Blessings and peace,
Prelude: “Amsterdam” Foundry Collection, 1742
Meditation: “Andante in G” W. A. Mozart
Postlude: “Christe, Christ, Light of the World” Lux Mundi David Hurd
