Linda Wood-Boyle will be preaching this Sunday, December 27th.
The prophet Isaiah is pretty excited in the scripture lesson for Sunday. “I celebrate and shout with joy. God’s saving power and justice are the very clothes I wear”. He goes on to talk about being clothed in a robe and wearing jewelry fit for a bride. This made me think about our relationships with clothes. I suspect that for most of us, our everyday wardrobe has been significantly impacted by COVID and the subsequent consequences we must deal with. As Christmas approaches I also suspect that the gifts we exchange with our loved ones are also altered. Probably Dad doesn’t need a new tie or Mom a new accent scarf. What for? We don’t really go anywhere that such business attire is necessary. We don’t even have to dress up for church!

Let’s explore together why Isaiah expressed his exuberance by talking about fancy clothing. What does that mean for us, right now, and going forward?

Music:
Prelude: Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by Johann Sebastian Bach
Anthem: “Away in a Manger”
Meditation: Christmas Time Is Here by Vince Guaraldi
