The Newton Art Association is an organization of 229 active art enthusiasts and artists, representing all branches of the visual arts, from drawing to sculpture. The majority of our members live in Newton, a close suburb of Boston; with many from Boston, Brookline and even New Hampshire.
Applications are due April 9 for the 2016 Newton Art Association Scholarships for high school seniors who live or go to school in Newton. Download the application, fill it out, and email it along with eight jpgs of recent work to email@example.com. Scholarships, which total $2,500, will be awarded in May.
The Association presents monthly demonstrations by professional artists from New England, on the 2nd Thursday of the month, from September to May, which are free and open to the public. Demonstrations are held at the Newton Senior Center at 345 Walnut St., Newtonville MA. Free parking is available nearby and the center is wheelchair accessible.
The Association conducts two major exhibits a year, showcasing the work of up to 80 members: The Annual Awards Show at the Newton Free Library, and the James King Bonnar Awards Show, funded and established by the family of the founder of the Association, which began in 1949. Additional minor exhibits spaces exist locally throughout the year, and special events such as our year-end soiree, art critique evenings, workshops, and discussion salons bring members together for constructive and social exchanges.
Whether you are an established artist or art professional, beginning artist or art collector, the Newton Art Association offers a variety of activities to educate, exhibit, inspire and encourage.
Membership is $30, which funds these events, as well as our yearly scholarships to Newton High School Seniors.
