MESSAGE: Preparing a Space
I feel like I inadvertently created a personality test when I decided to put off moving my personal items into the pastor’s office for these first two weeks while I was part time. People who have come in for meetings have said a range of things from “wow, it looks so different in here!” to “when are you going to move in?” Some people feel fairly comfortable in a somewhat empty space, but many people feel unsettled or even put off by it. In my last church, I had a very small office that was already full when I got there. Before that, I was largely working out of a home office, so I missed just how important this preparation was. It takes preparation to welcome people into a space. That’s true of an office, a home, or a sanctuary.
Likewise, we are called to prepare a space for living out God’s vision of justice, love, and peace in the world. The gospels refer to this lived out vision as the Realm or Kingdom of God. This Sunday, we’ll take a look at the text from Luke where Jesus sent the disciples out to prepare spaces for this realm. This is going to feel fairly different for our context, but it’s still really relevant. What does it mean for us to prepare the way for the Spirit in this time and place? How do we prepare for the work that we are called to do internally and externally? What are the challenges that we are faced with when preparing for the Realm of God today?
Meanwhile, I’ll do my best to make the pastor’s study a welcoming place for all to come visit.
Blessings and peace,

Children in Church: Summertime!
Although there is no Sunday school in the summertime, children are welcome in worship every Sunday. As an incentive to all children a calendar and stickers can be found on the bench in the Parish Hall. Add a sticker for every Sunday you come to worship this summer. A special prize will be given for any student who collects over 4 Stickers. Let’s see how many can get this special prize.
